EXOCRINE GLANDS:
Your exocrine glands produce other substances — not hormones — that are released through ducts to the exterior of your body, such as sweat, saliva, and tears.
The substances released by your exocrine glands play important roles in your body. They do things like help regulate your body temperature, protect your skin and eyes, and even help mothers feed babies by producing breast milk.
Your exocrine glands include:
1.salivary gland
2.Sweat gland
3.Mammary gland
4.Sebaceous gland
5.Lacrimal gland.
FUNCTIONS OF EXOCRINE GLANDS:
They perform functions like:
Regulate body temperature
Lubrication
Lactation
The functions of each gland are:
Lacrimal gland:
Produces tears which protects the eye as it lubricates and moistens it.
Mammary gland:
Produces breast milk.
Sweat glands:
Thermoregulation {maintains temperature},excretory route for water and electrolyte.
Sebaceous gland:
It’s an oil gland which produces sebum and lubricates the skin and reduces friction.
Salivary gland:
Secretes saliva keeps the mouth moist and clean
Facilitates chewing, swallowing, and helps in digestion process.
There are mainly 2 types of exocrine glands
* Simple
*Compound.
The simple is further divided into
* Simple Tubular eg: intestinal glands
*Simple Alveolar
* Simple Branched Tubular (eg: gastric glands)
*Simple Branched Alveolar.(eg: sebaceous glands)
The Compound is further divided into
* Compound Tubular.(eg: duodenal glands)
* Compound Alveolar.(eg: mammary glands)
*Compound Tubuloalveolar.(eg: salivary glands)
