HYPERTENSION ,ITS TYPES,INTERVENTION

 

Hello everyone . It's a great joy to meet u all . In todays topic we are going to discuss about HYPERTENSION and its intervention , complications etc. .   I have given explanation for this content  in YouTube in Tamil and English .

INTRODUCTION:

HYPERTENSION means high pressure in the arteries and most of the major organs.


TYPES OF HYPERTENSION:

PRIMARY HYPERTENSION:

It’s hypertension without any cause or not related to any medical conditions.

SECONDARY HYPERTENSION:

Any other medical condition that causes high blood pressure. Problems in the kidneys, arteries, endocrine system etc.




Risk factors of hypertension:  

  •       AGE : as the age progresses
  •       RACE: African Americans
  •        FAMILY HISTORY
  •       OBESITY
  •       TOBACCO USAGE
  •       ALCOHOL INTAKE
  •       STRESS
  •     PREGNANCY
  • CHRONIC CONDITIONS: Kidney problems, Diabetes mellitus.


COMPLICATIONS OF HYPERTENSION :

v Coronary Artery Disease : arteries that supply blood to the heart is damaged

v Peripheral Artery Disease : narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the legs and hands

v Kidney failure : happens by the damage of blood vessels in the kidneys

v Eye Damage:  Hypertensive retinopathy happens by the damage of the tiny blood vessels in the retina

v Heart attack

v Stroke: happens due to blood clot or bleeding in the brain.


Interventions for hypertension :

v Limit sodium 1-2 gms/ day.

v Limit alcohol and caffeine intake

v Increase intake of fruits and vegetables

v Reduce saturated foods and sugars.


Medical intervention:

v Thiazide Diuretics – chlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide

v Beta blockers – metoprolol, bisoprolol, labetalol

v Angiotensin II receptor blockers – candesartan, losartan, valsartan

v Alpha adrenergic blockers – doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin

v ACE inhibitors – captopril, enalapril, Lisinopril
